Page 148 - Activity 40


Extract A- The main character is a women has done something terrible in the past which could risk her chances in getting employed.
Extract B - About a women where other peole notice she should be a doctor as well as her wanting to become a doctor but don't have qualifications.
Extract C- About a doctor whose work is always so overcrowded and speaks upon how busy it is. Use of ellipses and short sentence.
Extract D- About a person who has a good perspective on life and tries to bring light into a dark room, as patients are always down
Extract E- A perspective from a doctors wife as it bothers her that he's all about the patients and has no time for her as he also overworks, this explains to is that the wife is quite family orientated.
Extract F - A perspective of a works patient who frequently visits and feels confused As to why the surgery is always empty. You can also see that the patient is quite religious and show show important the faith to them.
Extract G - about a very dependent reptionist and from her point of view she realises that patients are waiting doctors time with every little excuse. She's explains that shes in pain but could easily get better with an aspirin.

3) I think Extract C has the most effective opening as it jumps straight into action with a short sentence leaving the listener interested and ready to continue listening.

4) No as their not as effective as Extract C.

Conventions of a Dramatic Monologue

A dramatic monologue is a poem that shares many features with a speech from a play: one person speaks, and in that speech there are clues to his/her character, the character of the implied person or people that s/he is speaking to, the situation in which it is spoken and the story that has led to this situation.As a covention, each dramatic monologue should include: ... The background of the poem is interesting, but the text can be difficult to understand. The use of dramatic monologue works to separate the speaker from the poet.

   A) Laughing is identified as communication as you're replying to someone with a feeling. However, coughing is a spoken language but it is not used as communications to respond to someone with feelings. It is a bodily function, unless you are coughing which can be used to suggest sarcasm or hinting something to someone, it cannot be used as a response during communication.

Written or Spoken

"Right spacecraft at the right time" This is spoken as it has the quotation marks showing you that they're speaking to us. It is also an audio note meaning we are able to hear what's being said.

Russian and US ministers begin key talks in Geneva, expressing hope a plan for Syria's chemical arms can prevent military action. This is written communication as they are giving us information, not verbally as there isn't any quotes, play buttons etc.
